The Cross of Christ. A mystery and a symbol of the depth of God's love toward us. A visual symbol which illustrates a significant feature of Christianity. It would be most unseemly to feign a cool detachment as we contemplate Christ's Cross. For, whether we like it or not, we are involved. Our sins put Him there. The Cross of Christ. When we survey it, it must be with a bowed head and a broken spirit. It is easy to condemn others and overlook our own equally devious behaviour. We resent His intrusions into our privacy, His demand for our homage, His expectation of our obedience. Why can't he mind his own business, we ask? We too perceive Him as a threat to our peace, as one who upsets our status quo, and undermines our authority. We too want to get rid of Him. We too sacrifice Jesus to our greed, our envy and our ambition. We were there too. There is blood on our hands. Before we can begin to see the Cross as something done for us, leading us to faith and worship,we have to see it as something done by us, leading us to repentance. Have a nice day!

Give me this day my daily bread, and allow me to drink from Your cup of faith. You are the only and one true God, and I rejoice in knowing You. I am humbled by this relationship, and pleased to know that with each day I become closer to You. Walk with me, O Lord, hand in hand, so that we may spread your love throughout the land. Amen.
